The Transition Begins

What does it say when a museum devoted to the history of coal in Wales has solar photovoltaic panels installed? It says saving money with clean, renewable energy is smart.

Bio-mimicry For Solar Photovoltaics

I Effin Love Science

Here is an article describing research in the field of sun-tracking solar cells. Inspiration comes from a field of sunflowers. How cool is that?

ALEC Sees A Green Door And Wants To Paint It Black

ALEC is losing support left and right, but mostly from the left, and is looking to keep its head in the polluted skies by going after state renewable energy incentive programs. What does this mean for Ohio's SB 221 signed  into law by then Governor Ted Strickland in May of 2008? I do not know. A web search for SB 221 information led me to a .pdf on the Office of the Ohio Consumer's Counsel website. The link to the file was featured on the search results page but I could not find the link on the website. Strange? Could Ohio be beating ALEC to the punch? If you journey to the OC'sC website, notice the text alongside the "Please Note" button near the bottom of the page.

Cheaper?

What is the true cost of an increase of natural gas production? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the study here does not address the CO2 of extraction of natural gas, only the amount of emissions from burning. What is needed is a study that has a comparison of total emissions of CO2 from production to consumption. A comprehensive study would include emissions from all combustion machinery used in the process of extraction of fossil fuels to their end-use. Other factors including long-term economic impact of the region where production occurs and the health of workers and local residents who are exposed to toxic chemicals and pollution.

A Business Opportunity

Here is the chance many have been waiting for. As energy rates rise, rate payers will look to ways to save on their electricity bills. Renewable energy from wind and solar can help reduce and in some cases eliminate electric bills entirely.

A Candle That Burns Twice As Bright...

...burns half as long.

Today's technology takes that and places it squarely on its head. Advances in lighting technologies and a re-think of electric light usage are placing a spot light on the path to twice the brightness and half the energy.

UNCONSCIONABLE

What could they be thinking?

The National Wildlife Federation is drinking the cool-aid as they accept a partnership with Scotts Miracle Gro.

My comment on Facebook

"There is no justification for partnering with a company like Scotts. There can be no explanation to sway people to believe this is a good idea or it is in the interests of the planet and the people who support your organization. If you do not reverse course on this then I can emphatically announce I cannot be a part of your efforts to "greenwash" the public. Shame!

How Many People...

...are willing to hide their heads in the sand? I hope there are more people who get it and are willing to do what is necessary to make life less difficult for future generations. Make no mistake. Life WILL be difficult for future generations if people on Earth today who live a life of material abundance, nay, material excess continue with their lifestyles. Change will happen but will it come in the form of individual choice or the form of a mandate because their way of life is no longer sustainable? I hope the number of people who get it are greater than those who don't or don't care to get it.
